Latest WMPFL News

The 2019/2020 season was another hugely successful one for the West Midlands Powerchair Football League.  The league were somewhat fortunate that most of the league fixtures had already been played and each division had only one fixture date remaining before the season was suspended due to Covid-19, some teams had even completed their seasons fixtures.

The league held its AGM in June and as part of this clubs voted to end the season using the points per game basis across the Premiership, Championship and League One Divisions.  The WMPFL Premiership was won by WBA Throstles, giving the team their first ever trophy.  They had a great season, winning 9 of their 10 games played including an impressive 4-1 victory over WBA PFC in January.  It was a great performance from the team but special mention goes to Luca Wickens who bagged himself 10 goals across the season, the top goalscorer award however went to Villa Rockets Daniel Kay with 11 goals.

In the WMPFL Championship it was a fantastic season for Villa Rockets Juniors who won the title for the second time in three seasons, with Mason Hindley the league’s top scorer with 10 goals.  It was joyy for Villa Rockets again in League One as Villa Lions roared their way to success and finished the season unbeaten.  The divisions stand out player though was Bobby Allen who managed an impressive 13 goals.

The league were also delighted to host a WFA Referee Training Course just a few weeks before lockdown came.  We hope to engage further with these officials once it is safe to do so and help them progress through the Referee pathway.  Over the extended break and summer the league has been working hard to try and secure additional funds, we are currently building our own website and we are holding regular meetings between the clubs and teams to discuss the return to football – we cannot wait to get back playing the sport we all love.

A massive well done to everyone who took part in the league and a huge congratulations to the league winners and top goal scorers.
